How can people from all sectors get involved in the city of Ottawa’s new official plan (OP)?
Here are three ways:
1. answer a few poll questions (yet to be created)
2. attend a zoom townhall meeting on the subject (yet to be scheduled)
3. do a 1-on-1 zoom meetup with Firestone to talk about what changes to the new OP and revisions to Ottawa’s zoning code could help your industry, organization or family (contact Bruce Firestone–see below–to arrange a time).
Decisions by local government can be even more important to individuals than those made by higher levels–provincial, state or federal.
For example, Ottawa, as a tech town, is in a worldwide competition for talent. What if we could develop an official plan that would allow us to build mixed-use communities, ones that are neo-urbanist, economically and environmentally sustainable, walkable, animated, and livable districts. Places where people can LIVE-WORK-PLAY-CREATE-MAKE-LEARN-ENTERTAIN-SHOP-EXERCISE-GROW-SOCIALIZE in one neighborhood or, indeed, in one building?
