Private Sector Arenas Out-perform Public Sector Ones

“As founder of the Ottawa Senators, I have seen first hand how hockey and sports in general can bring a community together. Now, as an adviser to PowerPlay Sports, I’m excited to see how the private sector can efficiently and effectively fill a big gap in the recreational opportunities available to south end Ottawa residents. I also know that private sector arenas generate a great deal more income than public sector ones—in terms of attendance, participation and sponsorship—as well as operate at much lower costs. They also serve multiple purposes because they are multi-use facilities. Permitted uses include: indoor and outdoor ice rinks, field turf, gymnasium, retail space, restaurant space, office space, classroom space, meeting rooms, fitness studio, physiotherapy and other health-related clinics, concerts and events, outdoor play area and parking. Thus, these become work-play-shop-eat-learn facilities. Go PowerPlay Sports!” Bruce M Firestone, PhD, Ottawa Senators founder, ROYAL LePAGE Performance Realty broker
