Zoning codes in many cities have become straight jackets. If we can’t fix the zoning problem, cities in North America will stultify.
Here’s a quote from Mayor Jim Watson from last week’s GEW (Global Entrepreneurship Week), “Let’s roll out the red carpet for entrepreneurs in Ottawa not red tape.”
That (to me) also means making the cityscape more amendable to changes in the global economy that are reflected in the built form of the city in a period of a few months not 60+ months as is currently the case with many Ottawa developments.
