Here’s why (in pictures) I carry around with me (my wife’s idea originally) a piece of paper that says on it, “It’s real estate, stupid.”
Bill Clinton, when he was running for president the first time as a huge underdog to the conqueror of Kuwait (the 1st George Bush to be prez), carried with him a message that said, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
He had everyone who was working on his campaign carry the same message with them every day. So while Mr Bush spoke of a “1,000 points of light”, which no one understood, Bill and his people spoke about the economy. It was no contest–Bill received 370 electoral college votes, George HW Bush just 168.
So every time I’m tempted to invest in another hockey team or another can’t-miss stock or a t-bill, a GIC, a TFSA, a precious metal or the latest hedge fund gambit or mutual fund favorite, I look at these…
