HIre a Development Manager for your next project

For your next project (large or small), don’t hire a project manager, an architect, a planner or a contractor.Your first hire should be a Development Manager.

This is a relatively new role.

A development manager is a facilitator who fulfills these roles:

  1. Site acquisition advice and help with due diligence,
  2. Zoning review and guidance concerning highest and best use of the subject property (HABU),
  3. Developing a functional program along with animation ideas (ie, how to add new revenue streams to property),
  4. Budgeting, pro-forma and spreadsheet analysis/cap rate and internal rate of return calculations,
  5. City pre-consultation,
  6. Critical path scheduling,
  7. And many other tasks.

"I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your recent ProjectSpeaker column—it will be a big hit with our readers. I always enjoy your pieces, but this is without a doubt one of my favorites. It has a fantastic narrative—I love the opening skateboard anecdote, which sets a great tone—and contains a clear theme and tight focus."

"Congratulations Prof Bruce, you've got a winner here. After reading 'Part I – Discovery', I was totally hooked on Quantum Entity. It's better than 'The Goal' and more entertaining even than 'Dune'!"
